Story & Mission
Antonia Pantoja is a dual-language, K-8 charter school operated by ASPIRA Schools and serving students in the Hunting Park neighborhood of North Philadelphia. Since opening in 2008, we have provided high- quality education in English and Spanish to thousands of young people while offering a unique alternative to public schooling for local families. Our school bears the name of ASPIRA founder, Antonia Pantoja, as we're dedicated to providing the quality education and community building central to her vision which still lives through ASPIRA nearly 50 years since she founded the organization in 1969.
We work to ensure that all entering elementary students will graduate able to read, write, and communicate in English and Spanish according to their potential and goals. The programs and technology offered will support students with the tools that will help them excel in all content areas. While in a safe multicultural environment, students will develop leadership skills in order to become active citizens in our school and community.
As purveyors of knowledge , our teachers view teaching and learning as a lifelong process. Our teaching methods are those based upon the theories of Paulo Freire and John Dewey. This is realized through the use of hands- on learning with emphasis on development of critical thinking skills, and high academic standards.
